Consulate of Ireland Summer Newsletter 2023 

Ambassador of Ireland visits Savannah and Statesboro; Savannah Delegation Visits Ireland  Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason, visited Statesboro and Savannah in May at the invitation of Georgia Southern University. She was honoured to deliver the commencement address to the class of 2023 at the university and to meet its leadership including President Kyle Marrero and Dr Howard Keeley, Director of its Center for Irish Research and Teaching. Georgia Southern University has developed a campus in Wexford, Ireland – the only US public university with a physical campus in the country. World Trade Center Savannah leads trade delegation to Ireland 

In May 2023, World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav) led a delegation focused on economic development, education, tourism and civic engagement to Ireland in an ongoing mission to strengthen the TradeBridge initiative and further relations between Georgia and Ireland’s southeast regions. The delegation included representatives from WTCSav, the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA), the Pendleton Group, Georgia Southern University (GSU), Visit Savannah and Savannah’s civic offices including Mayor Van Johnson.

The Bottom Line on KCLR – TradeBridge Feature Ep 158 

TradeBridge is a new organisation established with the support of Local Authorities and other business development organisations across the South East. Its purpose is to develop trade links between South East Ireland and South East Georgia, USA. World Trade Center Savannah welcomes Chris Ahearn as Director of Research and Trade Development  World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav) was pleased to welcome Chris Ahearn to the team in August as the new Director of Research and Trade Development. Ahearn spent the last 10 years working in higher education and nonprofit organizations in Chicago. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and furthered his education at Dublin City University in Ireland where he earned a master’s degree in international relations. As the Director of Research and Trade Development, he facilitates and oversees all aspects of partner specific research, international lead development, planning and receiving of inbound and outbound delegations, and manages the Savannah side of TradeBridge.

TradeBridge Podcast on Irish Wood and Interiors Network 

TradeBridge is an economic development initiative backed by Enterprise Ireland, the Wexford Enterprise Centre and the five County Councils of the South East, Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Carlow.  At its core, TradeBridge will facilitate indigenous Irish companies, from start ups to SME’s and larger corporates to enlist in Trade Missions to the Savannah Metropolitan Area of South East Georgia.  Similarly, FDI companies from SE Georgia will come on inbound trade missions to the South East of Ireland.  TradeBridge works in conjunction with the World Trade Centre of Savannah and the Savannah Economic Development Authority in order to establish warm leads for our indigenous companies. The ultimate goal is for these leads to develop into strategic partnerships, trade and investment.
